This is the final article discussing stats from the past season, and also the last piece in introducing our team!
DEVEN BASLOCK The last player to be featured in our starting fifteen is Deven Baslock. Deven wears the number 15 jersey and suits up as our fullback. This past Spring, Deven played in four 7's matches against SUNY Oneonta and one 15's match against SUNY New Paltz. Against Oneonta, Deven made 12 tackles and rucked out 3 defensive balls. He also had 5 line breaks on the offensive side of the ball. Against SUNY New Paltz, Deven made sure he kept the back end of the defense clear and controlled, while making 4 break away tackles and saving multiple tries. Deven has bounced around to a few different positions, but his impact at fullback has definitely helped the team out the most. Looking ahead to the Fall 2017 season, Deven will return to the pitch as a Junior in his number 15 jersey. Deven has the full support of the team behind him, and everyone on the pitch is confident he can make the right plays to save the game when the defense gets beat. The squad can't wait to see what Deven has in store for opponents this season. The final players on the team are listed last but certainly not least. Sikhander Khan, Andrew DeMartino, Ian Fisher, and Spencer Snyder make up the Hartwick Rugby reserves. With the physicality of the sport and the taxing style of play, having a strong set of reserves is just as important as having a solid starting fifteen. Sikhander, Andrew, and Spencer are all backs, and can play wing positions and certain half-back spots as well. Ian is a forward reserve, and can play every position from prop to 8-man. Overall, the Hartwick College Men's Rugby Football Club is ready to play, and all of the guys on the squad can't wait to get out on the pitch. Keep updated and find out when and where the matches are so you can come out and support the team! Go Hawks! #GreatDayToBeAHawk
The last group of positions in the starting 15 are the Hartwick Backs. Today we introduce Terrill West, Joel van Alstine, and Angel Gutierrez.
ANGEL GUTIERREZ The final player for today is our Outside Centre Angel Gutierrez! Angel wears the number 13 jersey after a long Fall of playing many different positions. Angel is the quiet knife of the group, not saying much but making a huge impact on the field. This past Spring, Angel played in four 7's matches against SUNY Oneonta and one 15's match against SUNY New Paltz. Against SUNY Oneonta, Angel touched down 3 tries, made 11 tackles, had 4 line breaks, and successfully controlled the back of the defense at the sweeper position. Against SUNY New Paltz, Angel made 3 tackles, assisted in 6 rucks, and had 2 line breaks. Looking ahead to the Fall 2017 season, Angel will be returning to the Hawks as a Junior. He will wear the number 13 jersey yet again, and display his silent speed, strength, and kicking ability for the Tri-State Conference. The team can't wait to see Angel in action again, as his play style is flashy and fun to watch. Today, both of the Half-Backs for the Hawks Rugby team will be introduced. Both of these players are also the captains for the 2017-2018 season. Today, Tim Kinane and Jerry Nasi are being featured. Today, we wrap up the end of the starting pack players for Hartwick Rugby! Today, Logan Cain and Jonathan Terry (JT) are featured.
After going through the first three members of the Wick Rugby pack last week, we get to move onto the next three! Today, Shaheen Shaghaghi, Josh Mitchell, and Rich Slaff take the stage.
Today marks the first three Hartwick College Rugby Football Club players to be featured on the site! The first three players are Marcus Hudson, Love Patel, and Grey Bennis! MARCUS HUDSON Marcus Hudson proudly wears the number 1 jersey, assuming his role at the Prop position. This past spring, Marcus played in two full days of 7's rugby against SUNY Oneonta. The first day, Marcus recorded 23 tackles over three games, along with a team high 4 successful defensive rucks in the final match up. The second day, Marcus recorded 17 tackles over two games, along with 2 successful defensive rucks. Looking ahead into the fall 2017 season, Marcus will be entering his senior year, and yet again wear the number 1 jersey and stand in at the Prop position. He brings power, precision, and motivation to the team each day, along with witty, sarcastic comments. The team can't wait for Marcus to get back on the field doing what he does best. LOVE PATEL Love Patel wears the number 2 jersey, working hard as the lone hooker for the team. This past spring, Love played in two 7's matches against SUNY Oneonta and a 15's match against SUNY New Paltz. Against SUNY New Paltz, Love made 4 tackles and rucked out 7 offensive balls. His defining moments were in the scrum, however. Out of 5 offensive scrums, Love successful hooked back 5 balls, retaining possession on each one. Looking ahead to the fall 2017 season, Love will return to the team as a junior and still the only hooker on the squad. As most rugby players say, support your local hooker, play rugby!
